Polly Barks - Green Indy Blog

Got a question, comment, concern, or something else altogether? Shoot it my way: polly@greenindyblog.com.

Polly Barks a zero waste educator with a focus on making zero waste easier and more accessible for everyone. She’s a big fan of small town living, spending time in the kitchen, and slowly dismantling capitalism.

She spent 5 years in Moscow, Russia after university. Afterwards, she and her husband somewhat inexplicably landed in Indianapolis, IN. It was there – as she worked in high-poverty, high-crime communities – that she saw first-hand the trash that most privileged people can avoid. (Did you know trash never goes away – it just goes somewhere else?) She headed an hour north to buy a house and is now semi-settled in Lafayette, IN.

Her background is in ESL and special education with children with severe behavioral or psychological issues that prevented them from being in traditional classrooms. Her experience working in communities dealing with violence and poverty has informed how she approaches sharing zero waste.

Currently, Green Indy is her full-time gig. If she’s not working behind the computer, she’s teaching zero waste workshops throughout the Lafayette community. She’s partnered with the local food bank, conservation organizations, local community groups, and more!

In her spare time she’s picking up strange things off the side of the road to turn into a (hopefully, someday) beautiful backyard garden. Or trying out a new bread recipe.

Green Indy is available for collaboration on these types of projects:

  • Ambassadorships
  • Sponsored blog or social media posts
  • “Zero Waste 101” seminars
  • Keynote speeches
  • DIY zero waste product workshops
  • Green consulting for business
  • Other ways that we can spread zero waste together
